2009 Conference to Bring Together State’s Charter School Administrators

The 2009 Indiana Public Charter School Conference will be held April 29 at the Indiana Convention Center. Nearly all of the state’s charter school principals, board members and service providers will be in attendance as the conference explores several areas – academic performance, succession to college, tools for successful schools, and legal issues – surrounding the state’s charter schools.

“Charter schools are a critical piece to Indiana’s education system,” said Kevin Teasley, president and CEO of the GEO Foundation, which is holding the conference through its Charter School Service Center. “This is the one time of the year charter schools come together to share their experiences, learn about new trends and gain insight on how to make their schools better.”

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard will deliver comments at the breakfast session, while Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett will speak at the lunch. Both will discuss the importance of charter schools to the Indiana community and highlight how several schools are providing true access to college through programs that actually allow students to attend college and earn credits, while still in high school.

“The innovation that begins in these schools are not only making college a possibility for the students, but also gives them the ability to start down that road while in high school,” said Teasley.

The conference kicks off with an evening reception on Tuesday, April 28 and then picks up the next morning with breakfast and Ballard’s keynote.
