My white mama is named Ms. Glenn

She’s a mother, teacher and a friend

She’s all that and so much more

But I didn’t see it, coming in the door

Thought it was just another class

I just wanted a smoking pass

It grew to be something bigger than that

Glenn was cookin’ up a plan under that green hat

Then I saw my niece Ebony and her devotion

To a group called “Poetry in Motion”

I didn’t want to get involved

Writing was a problem I had to solve

I entered a contest for Christmas

And now we’re on the bus*

She tells me to write and do it without fuss

Always there to lend a helping hand

She’ll figure it out. She’s got a plan

She’s an awesome lady! I love her so

This friendship we have, I’d never let go
