Refreshments will be served.

Ms. Nora Glenn and Ms. Adrienne Williams are hosting an Open House event called “Lift Up Literacy at GMC” to showcase the new Gary Middle College classroom library.

Thanks to Indiana Humanities, Northwest Indiana Literacy Coalition, and the Read 180 implementation consultant, Gary Middle College now has a library to serve students and the community.  Thanks to a grant from the Northwest Indiana Literacy Coalition, we also have several sets of Bluford High series, and a set of classics for our library. We accept donations from many sources, and gladly stock books by local authors.  Representatives from the previously mentioned organizations will be invited to this event, as well as Gary Mayor Freeman-Wilson, and local writers, some of whose work is already represented on our bookshelves! This event is partnering with School Choice Week to promote this event.

As a public charter school, Gary Middle College is honored to be chosen as one of 55 sites to house the next Indiana Bookshelf! here in Northwest Indiana.  We hope that having the Next Indiana Bookshelf! books will engage the people of Gary iwth our state and its centennial celebration.  We hope to encourage our students and citizens to celebrate our history as an Indiana city.
