Ivy Tech Courses at GMC
All Gary Middle College students have the option to take college courses at the Ivy Tech Community College campus, free of charge to the student. Gary Middle College will pay for books and tuition for students to take Ivy Tech Community College courses on the college campus.
Before taking any IVY Tech course the student must take as assessment test called the Accuplacer. The student’s Accuplacer score will determine which IVY Tech course they can enroll in. The credits earned through IVY Tech will transfer to any university of the student’s choice if the student does not want to continue their education at IVY Tech.
Below are some links to practice Accuplacer tests that students can use to prepare.
Ebony Neal, a student who took IVYT-120 at Gary Middle College had a good experience, and shares, “I learned a lot from it. I learned a lot about myself–my getting over my shyness, and I learned about time management and success. I learned about the career I want to go into–massage therapy or opening my own daycare. I really recommend this class. I really learned a lot about myself.” Ebony earned 3 college credits for free!
Hear from Jacara McGraw about his thoughts on IVYT-120:
“It was awesome! It taught me a lot of things.
It taught me to really know the person who I am and to learn how to get along with people—relationships.
I learned how to cope with the college life and stay ready.
I learned how to get along with other cultures and ethnic groups.
I learned how to manage money.
I learned how to do presentations. It was my first PowerPoint.
I recommend this class for everyone. It teaches you how to be a more mature person.
It gives you a college-student mindset.”
